A
Rogue in Londinium
A Rogue in Londinium tackles the moral dilemma of sensationalizing
crime through the media. It introduces the birth of cinema, the
exploitation of the film medium as truth and the impact the newspapers
had on the public at the time of the Jack the Ripper murders. Richard
Rhys, a painter with a checkered past and insatiable hedonism finds
himself in the wrong place at the wrong time. Because he is recorded
having a row with a prostitute and subsequently killing her on this
new innovation called film his guilt is sealed in the public’s
eyes. The women around him are powerful even in Victorian times.
The gender roles seem to reverse as the story progresses and the
heroine, Victoria Thornton, a wealthy London socialite rescues Richard
from certain arrest and execution by arranging his escape to New
York City. Because she loves him she believes in his innocence.....
